WHEATEAR // OENANTHE OENANTHE (15cm)
THE WHEATEAR is a summer visitor to the region, typically associated with short, grazed turf and open moors, and more common in the west and north of the U.K. It is often one of the first migrants to appear from early March, as well as one of the last to leave. ===================== THANK YOU for your visit and kind comments, love reading them. Enjoy your new week, Summer has certainly gone and the autumn rains are back. Keep safe and well, God bless. ...........................Tomx

MEADOW PIPIT // ANTHUS PRATENSIS (14cm)
HARD TO SPOT, this ground-dwelling species feeds on invertebrates—a Widespread but rather nondescript, streaked brown bird. Sexes are similar, and outside breeding season, it is found in loose flocks. A joy to see on Skokholm Island off South West Wales. ======================= THANK YOU, for your visit and friendship, it means a lot to me, my extended family. Trust you are all well, here in the UK we have a long Bank Holiday weekend, "hooray!" but as always the forecast is for wet and windy weather. God bless ...............Tomx.

PUFFIN // FRATERCULA ARCTICA (29cm)

RAZORBILL // ALCA TORDA (38-41cm)
RAZORBILLS are usually conspicuous at seabird cliffs, and off-duty birds often sit around on prominent rocks near the nest, as above. Only seen during June and July, the rest of the time spent at sea. The image was taken on Skokholm Island off South West Wales. ==================== THANK YOU for your visit and friendship, remember a smile is infectious, so keep that smile on your face and love in your heart for everyone, and you will create many smiles in return, and maybe make somebody's day. God bless you ............Tomx

PUFFIN // FRATERCULA ARTICA (29cm)
THE LARGEST colonies comprise thousands-in some cases tens of thousands of pairs as above on Skokholm Island, This may sound a lot, but it represents a fraction of the numbers thought to have been present a century or so ago. Reasons for the decline include overfishing and pollution of the marine environment. ====================== THANK YOU for your continued visits and comments, I expect you are fed up with puffins now, but I love them. Stay safe and well, God bless .....................Tomx

PUFFIN // FRATERCULA ARTICA (29cm)
THE PUFFIN is a marine species, and only comes inland to breed, and is rarely driven ashore by storms..It is a good diver, and thanks to the size of its bill can catch as many as ten small fish or sand eels, in succession without having to swallow, carrying them crosswise. Seen getting ready to dive from the high cliff tops of Skokholm Island. ========================================= THANK YOU for your visit and friendship, enjoy the Lord's day, God bless........................ GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL // LARUS MARINUS (64-79cm)
OUR LARGEST GULL SPECIES, nothing weak enough to be overpowered and killed by the great black-backed gull is safe while this BUTCHER of the bird world is about. With its heavy, hook-tipped bill, it feeds voraciously on anything from mice and voles, gull chicks, young puffins, manx shearwaters and even sickly lambs are vulnerable. I have seen a video of one swallowing a rabbit whole. This was taken on the cliff tops of Skokholm Island. ================== THANK YOU for your visit and friendship, do hope you all enjoy your weekend, God bless .........................Tomx

FULMAR // FULMARUS GLACIALIS (105-110cm)
RELATIVE of the shearwaters and petrels family. Easily distinguished from gulls at close range by its tube nostrils and, in flight, by its stiffly held wings and effortless gliding action, Generally sociable and nests in colonies on sea cliffs, Typically indifferent to the presence of human observers, although capable of regurgitating its oily and smelly crop contents in projectile fashion over an intruder if alarmed. See at Skokholm Isaland, but we are vert lucky to have them in the South-East of Kent as well. ============================================== THANK YOU for your visit and friendship, trust you are all keeping safe and well. The weekend is almost upon us, and may God bless you richly ........................Tomx.
