NJ570458, LR29. HISTORY Pillar completed 13th May 1953 costing £13.17s.8d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ75/4 within the Banff secondary block during 1952. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary block NJ45 (Elgin) in 1953. Flush bracket S6899 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in August 1955. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1989. SITE VISIT Located 4½ miles NE of Huntly. Easiest accessed from Nth Redhill Fm (NW), but possible from Bogenspro (SW). The trig column is in gorse, but a previous visitor (not me this time) had kindly done the necessary with pruners. The pillar is in very good condition. Spider retains original OS plug with deep stamped font. The flush bracket is on the NW face. Vented through back sight hole. Views to Knockandy Hill, Tap of Noth, Hill of Collithie, Clasmach Hill, Ordiquhill, Hill of Milleath, Meikle Balloch, Auchincrieve, Bin of Cullen, Knock, Old Crombie.
