The Buck
Lots of bryophytes on our walk up the hill. So many nice ones but it was a bit chilly to stay in one place for long to get a good look. Very wet underfoot, good for mosses not so great for my boots!

Toothed peatmoss

Local holiday today so day off work. After a rainy morning wait we headed out for a tea time walk up the Buck in the Cabrach. This one is known for being wet underfoot, today was no different. Cloudy to start with but soon cleared and we got some nice late sunshine. Wind was chilly. I wasn't in a great mood today. Plenty mosses to look at so that cheered me up a little. Saw 2 ring ouzels which was a proper bonus.

This is OS mapping. In some areas, OpenStreetMap shows more footpaths
Spatial NI has online OSNI mapping. Click "Basemap Gallery" (4 squares icon at the top).
Now would be a good time for a cup of tea.

Doing not much of nothing
Teatime visit to The Buck. A fine hill on the border of Aberdeenshire and Moray. We sat at the top for a couple of hours, the evening sun was nice and there was warmth still in the air. Quiet on the hill, just us, the bees and Red admiral butterflies enjoying the last of the weekend before boring work tomorrow.

The rising moon
A dark walk down to see the Perseids meteor shower. We saw a couple of good ones. Nice moon and stars tonight too.
