S7513 - Creagan A Chaise
NJ104241, LR36. HISTORY Pillar completed 5th June 1953 costing £22.3s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ06/34 within the Nairn secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1956. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary block NH90 (Cairn Gorms) during 1960. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in July 1976. SITE VISIT Overall approach from the north. Bagged in conjunction with neighbouring S7481. Parked on SE verge opposite the entrance to Wester Rynaballoch at NJ107287. Followed the track from NJ105286 making straight for the ridge via NJ115273. Big grassy hill. The pillar is in fair condition, sound structure but a worthless being has caused damage by attempting to steal the flush bracket. Thankfully they failed. The spider centre is plugged with tar. The flush bracket faces southeast, compass reading 127°. Vented through right (NE) and front (SE) sight holes. The splendid 360° panoramic views include aspects to the Cairngorms and to Sutherland.
