S9002 - Beinn Dubh
NR422637, LR60 & LR61. HISTORY Pillar completed 1st November 1956 costing £35.2s.0d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NR55/T2 within the Islay secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1957. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1979. SITE VISIT Approached from the west. Parked by the turning loop along the track just between the gates at NR401638. Followed the mapped track to the head of Loch Fada, over the deer fence then climbed ESE to south end of the main shoulder, reaching the summit from that side. Open grazing top. The pillar is in fair condition, and has a minor chunk missing from back right edge. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. The flush bracket faces NNE, compass measurement 24°. Vented through the right sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view from top.
