S6153 - Caorach
NR991804, LR55. HISTORY Pillar completed 30th October 1950 costing £45.10s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS29/14 within the Greenock secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1952. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in July 1968. SITE VISIT Approached from southeast. Parked west side of A8003 at NS002796. Steep haul up right side of valley through gap in cliffs (NR995799) onto the plateau of Bealach Main. Continuing NW there is a further 100m climb to the summit. Open grazing hill. The pillar is in fair condition, top surface weathered away. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces ENE, compass reading 70°. Three sight holes open, FB face plugged. Innards filled with debris. Full 360° panorama from top.
