Knock And Lochan
The term for glaciated moorland with ice-moulded hillocks and intervening lochans. A fairly common landscape in the north-west of Scotland where ancient Lewisian gneiss doesn't make for fertile soil or even decent grazing. Despite appearances the track was pretty easy to follow although the diversion to the summit of Ben na h-Iolaire involved a short easy section of "off piste" walking.

Looking Up
I bypassed the summit of Beinn na h-Iolaire on my return and continued on the track over a low pass.

Sparkle And Shimmer
Rather than retrace my steps all the way I took an old offshoot track down towards the island of Fladday. This opened up a view down the Sound of Raasay with Skye as the backdrop to the inlets, headlands and rocky islets of Raasay.

Eilean Fladday
The tidal island of Fladday is reached from an offshoot of the Kyle Rona to Arnish track. Another crofting community. The houses are now "summer cottages" for people living elsewhere. The last permanent residents left in 1965.

The other photos have been geo-tagged as on or around the summit. For less busy mountains, it can be a little hit and miss.
