Eas a' Chual Aluinn Waterfall, the highest in the British Isles at 201 metres or 660 feet, in Assynt, Sutherland.
Commentary. As the sun begins to set in the far north-west of Sutherland, we came to this scene, south-east of Loch Glencoul, after a 6-mile hike from the A.894 to Kylesku. Glacial over-deepening has created a hanging-valley, where streams plunge from summits over 350 metres or 1,150 feet. Eas a' Chùal Aluinn waterfall plummets 201 metres or 660 feet into the abyss, the highest waterfall in the British Isles. Though not in full flood, the depth of fall is sheer and awesome, into a valley that contains Loch Beag, an extension of the sea-loch, Loch Glencoul. The impact of this spectacle well justified the effort to get here!
