S9416 - Fionn Bheinn
NH147621, LR20. HISTORY Pillar completed 16th July 1957 costing £41.4s.10d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NH16/11 within the Wester Ross secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1958. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1988. SITE VISIT Approached from the south, Achnasheen. The public car park is to the south of the A832, adjacent to the station car park, both at NH163585. From the car park entrance, local signage directs walkers across the A832, onto a section of old road and up a farm track to the beginning of the unmapped but worn footpath. This path becomes boggy in places but is the direct route to the Munro top. This standard Hotine triangulation pillar is damaged. The whole spider is missing, a theft probably made easier by weathering. There is also damage below the flush bracket which itself is secure. The flush bracket faces northwest, compass measurement 292°. Vented originally through the left sight hole but the front hole has been broken open probably with the damage below the FB already mentioned. Full 360° panoramic view from the top. Photographed: 10th July 2022, GRP. ═════════════════════════ Intreractive index: www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1arx2Qmo5mVeVUJA2lzVG_uzbYPW59ffh&ll=57.611143,-5.102702&z=10" rel="noreferrer nofollow Google My Maps Panorama: www.360cities.net/image/fionnbheinn" rel="noreferrer nofollow www.360cities.net/image/fionnbheinn Map: www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/38555230910 Trig Pillars on OS Landranger 20 ═════════════════════════ Neighbouring Triangulation Pillars S9440 - Meallan Chuaich : 4.63 miles to the NNW www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/52215481878/in/album-72157631831281682/ S9426 - Carn Beag : 4.78 miles to the SSW S9913 - Carn A` Ghlinne : 5.03 miles to the west. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/52215946160/in/album-72157631831281682/ S9429 - Carn Mhartuin : 5.08 miles to the SSE S9500 - Sgurr Nan Clach Geala : 6.24 miles to the NNE www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/52215947520/in/album-72157631831281682/ S9494 - An Cabar : 6.93 miles to the east.
