Scourie - Loch an Obain
Scourie is a small village on the north-west coast of Scotland. Until the 19th century, the Clan Mackay was the dominant family in the area, and one branch of the family owned Scourie itself. Scourie Beach is a place, where tourists can enjoy bird watching huts and are given information about the local animals and the surrounding area.

Where the land dips its toes in the Hebridean Sea and tries to reach the rocky islands of Badcall Bay, Sutherland, Scotland.
Commentary. Badcall Bay is speckled by a myriad of small, low-lying, rocky islands, contained within the arms of its encircling headlands. Between these islands there are often fishing boats seeking harbour or specifically fishing for shell-fish in the shallow, calm waters. Sutherland is so far north that fewer visitors get far enough north to savour its unique vistas. Primeval. Surreal. Timeless. Truly wonderful!

The island-scattered coastline of Badcall Bay, south of Scourie, Sutherland, Scotland.
Commentary. Badcall Bay on Sutherland’s western seaboard provides amazing views of the monolithic mountains of its interior hinterland. Isolated, ancient, eroded massifs form an orderly queue north to south. Like slumbering herbivores from the dinosaur era, these peaks dominate this incredible landscape. Badcall Bay, itself, by contrast, is speckled by a myriad of small, low-lying, rocky islands, contained within the arms of its encircling headlands. Between these islands there are often fishing boats seeking harbour or specifically fishing for shell-fish in the shallow, calm waters. Sutherland is so far north that fewer visitors get far enough north to savour its unique vistas. Primeval. Surreal. Timeless. Truly wonderful!

Colours and Clouds
After a detour to search for a lost mountain (possible story for another post) we turned south to head back through Assynt. On the way down we noticed some decent coastal views and randomly headed up a short 'dead end' to see what we could find. The road offered a viewpoint across Loch an Obain and the islands of Badcall Bay. Some lovely colour on the hills was complemented nicely by these Mare's Tail, Cirrus clouds building from the west.
