Rail 2-4-1 Attractions FAQ
This little known scheme give 2-for-1 entry to attractions when you travel by rail.
You can use it in 2 ways
- fill out the voucher in the "2-sfor4-1" paper leaflet from railway stations
- apply online and print the voucher - many places don't accept showing it on your phone (to make it harder for overseas visitors)
A few places, mainly "Merlin" attractions like Chessington World of Attractions or the London Eye, are "book online only", so walk ups can't get it.
It's really good for Central London attractions, but for some like Alton Towers which are nowhere near a station, its a little odd.
How It Works
Each group of 2 people need 1 voucher and 2 train tickets.
1. Check the attractions page for any special rules and black out dates, then fill in a voucher (paper or online)
2. Travel by train.
- Valid: Any ticket with a BR logo - paper tickets, travelcards, a printout of an e-ticket, rail smartcards.
- Not Valid : TFL (London Transport) tickets (inluding contactless and TFL travelcards), Eurostar and Heathrow Express tickets.
The ticket should be to a nearby place.
The ticket should be valid on the day for a single, or during the return validity for a return (i.e. on the day for a day return, anytime during the month for a month return)
Examples:
You live in London, and want to visit Kew Gardens. Buy a day return or paper travelcard from you nearest train station to Kew Gardens station.
You're an overseas visitor. Buy a period return from Stanstead Airport station to London. Use the tickets to visit Kew Gardens and other London attractions during your stay.
