Bunhill Fields

Description

Bunhill Fields is a former burial ground north of the City of London, which sufferd much damage during WW2. Its now managed as a public garden. Historically it was much larger. Over 2,000 monuments remain. It was particularly favoured by Nonconformists, including John Bunyan (d. 1688), author of The Pilgrim's Progress ; Daniel Defoe (d. 1731), author of Robinson Crusoe ; William Blake (d. 1827). Nearby was a separate Quaker burial ground, sometimes also known by the name Bunhill Fields. Its remains are also now a public garden, Quaker Gardens. Open Weekdays from 7.30am (weekends 9:30am) to 7pm or dusk (which ever is earlier). Access to the gated areas is by prior arrangement and before 3pm.
