HHA Map Notes
The Map
There are 2 maps, one with an OS background (GB mainland only, better for countryside and walks), and one with a towns and roads background (better for navigating and Ireland).
The HAA
The Historic Houses Association has about 500 member properties.
- About 300, "free" on the map, are free to visit for members (like the National Trust membership). A few, like Arundel Castle are only part free (e.g. the gardens only not the house).
- About 40, "pay" on the map, are not part of the free-to-members scheme. Mostly the biggies, like Blenheim Palace, Highclere (aka Downton Abbey) or Castle Howard.
- About 100, "book" on the map, have to be pre-booked in advance. Almost all of them are are not part of the free-to-members scheme.
- About 100, not shown on the map, are events / wedding venues not open to the public
Despite the "biggies" not being included, the HHA "free to members" it is still a fantastic scheme. Cheaper than the National Trust, with far more properties, and more importantly, far more interesting to visit, often with guided tours. The properties are family or trust owned, and it really shows.
£68 (single) / £108 (family)
